About me

I love everything about books -- writing, editing, reading and discussing them! I have notebooks full of ideas and a bookcase overflowing with books. I enjoy visiting schools, libraries and bookshops and sharing my passion for stories.

In June, Bloomsbury will publish The Ultimate Guide to Editing Your Novel: A revolutionary approach to transform your writing. It's my comprehensive, step-by-step approach to help writers make their rough drafts submissions ready. 

Publishers in the US, UK and Europe, including Scholastic, Little, Brown and Orion, have published ten of my books for children/teens. My series Chasing Danger is an action-adventure series for tweens. Dark Parties, my first young adult novel, won the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators Crystal Kite Award for Europe. My next teen novel – Half Lives – is a story told in two voices from a pre- and post-apocalyptic time. I also write a funny magical series for young readers, titled Magic Trix.

I consult part-time as Storymix’s talent manager and previously as a senior commissioning editor at Working Partners. I've worked behind the scenes at these fiction studios to develop and edit hundreds of books.

I've taught master’s courses on writing for children/teens at Goldsmiths University and the University of Winchester. I've given writing workshops to teens and adults in the US, UK and Europe. 

I was the co-creator of the SCBWI-BI Undiscovered Voices anthology – which has launched the writing careers of more than a hundred authors.

I was born and raised in Washington, Indiana, a small town in the Midwestern United States. I graduated from Indiana University with degrees in journalism and psychology, and later I earned a master's degree in creative and life writing at Goldsmiths College, University of London. I live in London and write full-time.
